Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation. It involves ritual washing with water. Water is commonly known as a symbol of life and cleansing – that’s what it means in Baptism. Water is poured over a person’s head (or the person can be immersed in water). This action is a symbol of washing away Original Sin, rising to new life in Christ and marks the beginning of a person’s participation in the mission of the Church. While many people are baptised as young children, adult baptisms regularly occur across the Brisbane Archdiocese.
Surfers Paradise Parish follows the policies of the Archdiocese of Brisbane as it welcomes each person into the family of the Church through the waters of Baptism.
Infants and children are baptised at the request of their parents. Within the Baptism ritual, parents promise to accept the responsibility of training their children in the practice of the faith and to raise their children to understand and live God’s commandments. Parents can request baptism for their child by filling out an enrolment form.
Once the online baptism form has been received, our Baptism Coordinator will provide details for preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism and requirements for booking the Baptism Celebration day. The cost for each baptism is $130.
Our Surfers Paradise Sacramental Team strives to understand and works to respond to the needs of each family and where necessary; the needs of individuals within families. If you wish to discuss your particular circumstances or you have questions about any of the sacraments through which God can communicate his abundant grace and love, please enquire below to start the conversation.
Sacramental information is often included in our Surfers Paradise Parish Newsletter so please click here and subscribe to our e-newsletter.
